Square Feet to Square Meters: ft² to m²
Area is two-dimensional, so its conversion factor is the square of the length factor. Since one international foot is exactly 0.3048 meters, one square foot is 0.3048² = 0.09290304 square meters.
Worked example · Updated

Convert 500 square feet
Multiply 500 by 0.09290304 to obtain 46.45152 m². If an estimate to one decimal place is enough, this is about 46.5 m².
Do not multiply by 0.3048 just once. That is the length factor; area needs the factor squared. Volume uses the length factor cubed.
Check the area unit
Square feet (ft²) and feet (ft) measure different things. Floor area is normally reported in square units, while the sides of a room are reported in length units.
A unit conversion does not account for wall thickness, irregular room shape or the measurement method used to obtain the original area.
Use the area converter
The linked converter opens with 500 ft² as its input and m² as the target. Confirm the unit pair, then press Convert to reveal the result.
